No it's not a problem of prophecy I guess, he was just young and in love with the wife of another one, and he followed his passion instead of his good sense and because of that, it started a war. He was married against his will with Elia of Dorne but loved another woman who was unfortunately not his.

But I'm just finishing "a feast for crows" and so if there is anything new about Rhaegar's motives in the following I don't want to be spoiled ^^

Well at least Rhaegar seemed more handsome, more intelligent and more cultured than Robert who drank all the time and was always going with prostitutes.

In his youth Robert was very handsome, intelligent and strong. I think if he hadn't lost Lyanna he would have remained that way when he was older instead of letting himself go.

It is said in the books that even when he married Lyanna he was already seeing a lot of prostitutes etc... Ned remembers that Lyanna says that one woman is not enough for him...

Oh yeah! sorry.
By the way without spoilering nothing people who seems "perfect" (as in more intelligent and cultured than Robert, as it's stated more than once that robert in his youth was VERY handsome and many had crushes on him, as well as Cersei) makes me suspicious. VERY suspicious. In these books in particular (Remember? Joffrey was a charming blonde beautiful prince at the beginning and the you found out that he was... well. Joffrey.).
XD We just have different tastes in men I guess.
